Members of the UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Law Attended UNESCO Chair Forum

As a side event of the 45th World Heritage Conference, the UNESCO Chair Forum (hereinafter referred to as the "Chair Forum") was successfully held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on September 18, 2023. More than twenty teams related to cultural heritage from countries including China, Egypt, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland participated in the forum through online or offline means. Representatives from the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO attended the forum. The members of the UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Law was invited to participate online. Professor Wang Yunxia, the holder of the chair and director of the Institute of Cultural Heritage Law at Renmin University of China, spoke on behalf of the Chair; Dr. Hu Shanchen, the member of the Chair and lecturer at the Law School of Minzu University of China, and Ding Guangyu, the doctoral student at the Law School of Renmin University of China and assistant to the Chair, attended the forum online.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Mr. Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Executive Director of the World Heritage Arab Region Centre, and Ms. Inga Nichanian, Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair Program, each delivered welcome speeches. Professor Heba Aziz, holder of the UNESCO Chair on World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Management in the Arab Region, provided a concise explanation of the background of this forum.
Professor Wang Yunxia briefly introduced the purpose, main activities, and development goals of the UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Law during the exchange session. She suggested establishing a regular mechanism for the Chair Forum and looked forward to promoting cooperation between cultural heritage-related chairs and the World Heritage Centre, Category II Centres under UNESCO, and other cultural heritage-related chairs.
The UNESCO Chair Forum side event was held
for the first time during this World Heritage Conference, which has positive
significance for strengthening the connections and exchanges between UNESCO
cultural heritage-related chairs and between cultural heritage-related chairs
and the World Heritage Centre and other UNESCO cultural heritage protection
institutions.
