In the afternoon of September 29, 2022, Professor Wang Yunxia, Director of the Institute of Cultural Heritage Law of Renmin University of China School of Law and host of the UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Law, gave a lecture on the topic of "How to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of the Beijing Central Axis through legislation" at the Cultural Heritage Salon of the Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Center (CHP). The salon was held at Courtyard Institution, located on Beijing's central axis, and was hosted by Mr. Hu Xinyu, director of the Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Center and founder of Courtyard Institution. The salon was broadcast live through WeChat and Bilibili for the public who care about the preservation of Beijing's central axis.

Prof. Wang Yunxia first introduced the reasons and significance of adopting laws to guarantee the protection and heritage of the cultural heritage of the central axis, pointing out that the Regulations can unify various legal norms to specifically protect the characteristics of Beijing's central axis, and also meet the requirements for nomination to the World Cultural Heritage. Afterwards, Prof. Wang Yunxia explained the important systems of the central axis protection, such as the overall protection, the mechanism of deliberation and coordination, cultural heritage inheritance and public participation, and legal responsibility, etc., in the context of the specific provisions of the Regulations, and introduced to the audience the ways for the public to contribute to the inheritance and development of Beijing's central axis cultural heritage. She emphasized that the inscription of the heritage is an important tool to protect and inherit the cultural heritage of the central axis, and the fundamental purpose of protecting and inheriting the central axis is to inherit Chinese civilization and Beijing's historical heritage, and to promote the sustainable development of Beijing city.

After the lecture, the moderator and the audience had a lively exchange and interaction with Prof. Wang Yunxia. In response to the questions from the audience, Prof. Wang Yunxia pointed out that approaching cultural heritage can make community residents and the public fully recognize and acknowledge the value of cultural heritage, so the Regulations provide for many measures regarding the opening of cultural heritage and public participation to protect the public's right to cultural heritage, which is indeed more prominent in the local legislation on cultural heritage protection in China; the value of Beijing's cultural heritage along the central axis is different from that of the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the The value of Beijing's central axis cultural heritage is different from the value of existing world heritage sites along the central axis, such as the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City and the Grand Canal, and the inscription of the heritage can promote the protection and utilization of Beijing's central axis cultural heritage in an integrated manner; Beijing's central axis cultural heritage is closely related to the residents of the old city of Beijing, and the protection and utilization of cultural heritage should facilitate modern life and should promote the improvement of people's livelihood.

The salon was widely welcomed by the public, with more than 1,000 people watching the salon through the Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Center and the "Cultural Heritage Circle" WeChat account and Bilibili Live, and actively participating in the live broadcast, reflecting the public's concern and support for the cultural heritage inscription and protection of Beijing's central axis. The Institute of Cultural Heritage Law of the Law School of Renmin University of China and the UNESCO Chair of Cultural Heritage Law participated in the legislative research, demonstration and consultation of the Regulations on the Protection of Beijing's Cultural Heritage along the Central Axis, and will further assist in the protection of Beijing's cultural heritage along the Central Axis and its inscription, and continue to carry out public education activities on cultural heritage protection.
