Members of UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Law attended the "Cross Gate Legal Forum" at Macau University of Science and Technology

From 4 to 5 December 2020, Professor Wang Yunxia, the holder of the UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Law and Director of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Renmin University of China Law School, Professor Li Weifang, Co-expert of the Chair and Professor Li Yuxue, Researcher of the Institute of Law of Chongqing Social Sciences Academy, were invited to participate in the 52nd "Cross Gate Law Forum" held by Law School of Macau University of Science and Technology. Professor Wang Meihong, School of Marxism, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Dr. Hu Shanchen, the member of the Chair from School of Law, Minzu University of China were also invited to attend the conference.


"Cross Gate Law Forum" is one of the brand academic activities of the Law School of Macau University of Science and Technology, mainly focusing on hot and cutting-edge issues in the field of law. The theme of the forum is "Legal Protection of Cultural Heritage" under the background of the 15th anniversary of Macao's historic city being listed on the World Heritage List. The forum was moderated by Bi Jingwei, assistant professor of Macau University of Science and Technology. Fang Quan, Dean of Law School, attended the forum.

Professor Li Weifang shared the first typical case of an independent trial and criminal punishment by the International Criminal Court for deliberate destruction of cultural heritage in armed conflict. Professor Li Yuxue analyzed the legal system and existing problems of architectural heritage protection in mainland China. Dr. Hu Shanchen analyzed the development, current situation and existing problems of the local legislation of world cultural heritage protection in mainland China based on Macau’s special legislative plan of historical city protection. Professor Wang Yunxia and Professor Wang Meihong made comments on the speeches of several speakers. At last, Professor Wang Yunxia made a summary of the discussion.

On December 5th, the teachers attended the graduate forum of Macau University of Science and Technology. They communicated with postgraduate students about legal research methodology.
